At Salt Coast

## One standard, from the quote to the finish

Every job is run to the standard Leo sets, and he oversees it from the first look at the house to the final walk-through. In practice that means:

- Every house is seen in person before anyone talks price
- The prep and paint system is picked for how exposed the house is, working to AS 4312, the Australian standard for corrosion
- The prep, the painting and the clean-up are all done to his standard
- Our painting and maintenance guides are written by Leo

Before Salt Coast

## Twenty-five years on the tools

Leo has been painting for more than twenty-five years, in Barcelona, France, Queensland and Perth. A lot of it was hotel and retail work: Nobu and the Expo Hotel in Barcelona, Hostel G and the Ibis in Perth, and an L'Occitane store in Nîmes. He also spent several years renovating properties for banks, which teaches you fast what a finish is worth when someone is about to sell.

Registrations and training

## Registered, and trained for older homes

Every one of these sits on a public register, and each number links to it.

- Registered WA painting practitioner, [PP101867](https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/building-and-energy/building-and-energy-licence-and-registration-search) (Building Services Board, Western Australia)
- Salt Coast is a registered WA painting contractor, [PC102385](https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/building-and-energy/building-and-energy-licence-and-registration-search)
- Work safely with lead-painted surfaces, unit [CPCCPD3031](https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/CPCCPD3031)
- Trained to encapsulate non-friable asbestos, unit [CPCCPD3036](https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/CPCCPD3036)
- Apply paint by spray, unit [CPCCPD3024](https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/CPCCPD3024)
- Work safely at heights, unit [CPCCCM2012](https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/CPCCCM2012)
- Operate elevated work platforms up to 11 metres, unit [CPCCCM3001](https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/CPCCCM3001)

WA registrations: search the number on the [Building and Energy licence and registration search](https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/building-and-energy/building-and-energy-licence-and-registration-search). Training units issued by Teach International, [RTO 31165](https://training.gov.au/Organisation/Details/31165), and listed on training.gov.au.

Two of these matter more than people expect. A house built before 1970 can have lead paint under the newer coats, and some older homes have asbestos-cement sheeting. Leo is trained to prep lead-painted surfaces safely and to encapsulate non-friable asbestos. That means sealing sound material where it is, not taking it out.

Why the coast is different

## Specified for where the house sits

Most paint jobs near the water fail early because they were done as if the house sat ten kilometres inland. Salt settles on the walls and the metalwork, pulls moisture out of the air and gets in under the paint. So every Salt Coast job starts by working out how exposed the house really is, and two houses in the same suburb can end up with different systems. In [Cottesloe](https://saltcoast.com.au/locations/cottesloe/), a house on Marine Parade and one east of the railway line sit in different corrosion bands.
